Newspeak
amzing, inspiring but mostly, very intelligent.
The new exhibition at saatchi in chelsea, showcasing the very best (they say) of young british artists, was definitely the best thing that happaned to my week.
BUT
it made me wonder quite a lot about WHO decides, and rules the art world.
Who decides that this or that artwork is worth 1,2,3...a million pounds?Who decides what is art, and what is more, what art is good and what is not? And then, what does it mean good when we are talking about contemporary art? It is not the technique, nor the topic or the meaning. It can't be that because if it was it would be like deciding that some freedom of expression is better than other. How come? Is it then, about what the market requires, what people like? How, why? It can't be this either, since people like what they tell them is good. They. That's the answer but it brings another question: who are they? Why are they deciding? It's driving me mad.
